Staying Safe During the Chemical Emergency

Please follow all instructions from local emergency officials. If you are told to evacuate, please do not wait.

If you are in or near an affected area, please continue to follow guidance from local officials. General safety reminders include:

  • Avoid the affected area and follow posted road closures and public safety instructions.
  • Prepare essential items, medications, important documents, phone chargers, and other necessities in case you need to leave quickly.
  • If you notice smoke or chemical odors, keep windows and doors closed and remain indoors when possible.
  • Use indoor air circulation or HEPA filtration if available.
  • Seek medical attention right away if you experience breathing difficulty, dizziness, nausea, chest discomfort, or severe eye or throat irritation.
  • If you need urgent or emergency medical care, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room..

Prepare now in case you are ordered to evacuate Garden Grove or surrounding areas due to the chemical tank emergency, it’s important to pack essentials for safety, comfort, and continuity of daily needs.
